A large amount of fuel spilled onto Dorchester Avenue early Friday morning creating a hazardous materials situation after the driver of a Sunoco truck drove over a traffic control box, rupturing a tank, the Boston Fire Department said.
Fire officials responded to 1246 Dorchester Ave. near Freeport Street at approximately 11:15 p.m., the department said, and as of 12:15 a.m. Friday there was no way to stop the flow. Boston Fire said many dikes had been set up, and no one had been injured.
There were 11,000 gallons in the truck, separated in different tanks. Two tanks containing a combined 5,100 gallons were leaking. No further information was immediately available.
