Three injured in Cape Cod crash

Three people were injured on Cape Cod early this morning when a car veered into the opposite lane and was hit by a tractor-trailer, Dennis police said.

Dennis police said the accident happened at about 6:20 a.m. on Route 28 and Division Street at the Dennis/Harwich town line.

The front seat passenger in the 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, a 34-year-old Dennis man, was seriously injured. The driver, Shannon Mackie, 30, of Dennis, and her 13-year-old son, who was riding in the back seat, suffered injuries that were not life threatening. All three were taken to Cape Cod Hospital, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, which was carrying about half a load of sod on its flatbed trailer, was uninjured.

“Initial investigation revealed that the Pontiac was traveling eastbound on Route 28 when it veered into the westbound lane … of Route 28, possibly in the act of making a left hand turn onto Divison Street, when the crash occurred,’’ police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
