Officer suffers minor injuries when car slams into Yarmouth cruiser

A police officer suffered minor injuries when her cruiser was struck while she was en route to another motor vehicle crash Tuesday, Yarmouth police said.

Officer Melissa Alden had stopped at a red light at the intersection of Buck Island Road and Higgins Crowell Road and had activated her emergency lights and sirens before proceeding through the intersection, said Deputy Chief Steven Xiarhos.

Janice Holland, 58, of Yarmouth failed to yield for the officer and struck the right rear side of the cruiser with the front of her vehicle, Xiarhos said.

Alden was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Holland was not injured. She was cited for failing to yield for an emergency vehicle, Xiarhos said.
