Red Line service disrupted by suspicious package at Alewife

Alewife Station has been reopened after it was temporarily closed this afternoon because of a suspicious package, according to the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority.

“A package was left on a Red Line train, and police are examining it with explosives detection equipment,’’ Joe Pesaturo, spokesman for the MBTA, said earlier today.

He said MBTA Transit Police looked at the package using X-ray equipment.

In an official tweet, Transit Police announced later that the situation was “all clear.’’

Shuttle buses provided service between Alewife and Davis stations while the station was closed.
