A man was struck and killed by an MBTA commuter rail train near the Lynn Station this morning, according to the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority.
The incident happened shortly after 6 a.m. near Friend Street, about a quarter mile from the commuter train station, MBTA spokesman Joseph Pesaturo said in an e-mail. The train was traveling inbound.
Transit Police are investigating the fatal incident, according to Pesaturo. He described the man as a “railroad trespasser.’’ The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The track has been reopened, but passengers can still expect significant delays on the Newburyport/Rockport line, Transit Police said in an official tweet.
