Through the decades, the mighty polka dot has fallen in and out of fashion favor. The dot has made its way back in this year, as singers, actresses, Michelle Obama, sports stars, and even cartoons, flaunt the look . Most recently, there’s been a frenzy over Taylor Swift’s
red polka-dotted bikini that she’s been wearing around Cape Cod this summer. Meanwhile, Katy Perry’s fashion interpretations never fail to raise eyebrows, and the celebrities of yesteryear who rocked early polka dots made the look famous: Think Marilyn Monroe‘s character in the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch’’ and the real-life Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis vacationing in Italy in 1962.

Country-pop singing sensation Taylor Swift was seen in Hyannis Port with her 18-year-old boyfriend, Conor Kennedy, sporting a high-waisted, red polka-dot bikini this summer. The $75 suit is on back order .

Polka dots aren’t just for ladies, proves Steven Tyler, lead singer of the band Aerosmith. He showed off the look in March at a news conference announcing the band’s 2012 Global Warming Tour at The Grove in Los Angeles.
