Boston radio station WTKK 96.9 FM said Tuesday it has expanded its news offerings to include live newscasts every 30 minutes, and traffic and weather reports every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. The news and weather reports will be available on the radio station, online (at http://www.newstalk969.com) , and via apps on Apple and Android mobile devices.
The station, which has a talk radio format, is now branding itself as “News Talk 96.9.’’
The expanded news programming is based on a partnership with Total Traffic Network, a national news service that is owned by radio giant Clear Channel Communications, Inc., located in San Antonio, Texas. The news staff will be locally-based, said WTKK program director, Grace Blazer.
“We’ve always had news,’’ Blazer said, “but now it will be more frequent and more local.’’
WTKK-FM is owned by Greater Boston Radio Inc., a subsidiary of Greater Media Inc., headquartered in Braintree, which owns 22 AM and FM radio stations in the Boston, Charlotte, Detroit, New Jersey, and Philadelphia markets.
