Patients moved at Everett hospital because of unknown odor

An unknown odor in a unit at Whidden Memorial Hospital today prompted medical staff to move 15 patients as a precaution, the hospital said.

A hazardous materials response team went to the scene to locate the source of the odor and confirmed there were no hazardous chemicals involved, said hospital spokesman David Cecere.

The hospital did not have to evacuate any patients or staff and remains open and operational, Cecere said. Patients and staff exposed to the odor have not shown any adverse effects.

The unit will remain closed until the situation has been cleared and the unit is safe to be reopened, Cecere said.
