Lexington celebrates 300th birthday with town photo

To celebrate their town’s 300th birthday, Lexingtonians are engaged in a lengthy celebration that started last weekend and will stretch to May. Among the special events was this town photo that drew almost 2,000 residents to the oval inside the high school track on an overcast Sept. 22 afternoon. This is a merged photo, which uses six photos shot in sections and stitched together in photo editing software shot by Globe photographer Joanne Rathe, a Lexington resident. Globe staffer Ed Medina also shot the town photo using the GigaPan technique, which merged together multiple sections of the crowd to create a high-resolution panoramic image that when viewed online can be magnified to see individual faces.
