Trampolines could be big sellers this holiday season, and chicken coops and air hockey tables should also do well.
So predicts Wayfair.com, a Boston-based online retailer of home products and furnishings. The company said it sifted through its sales data to come up with its holiday forecast.
‘‘At Wayfair.com, we are listening carefully to our customers and analyzing trends to make sure we serve up the best deals on the products that matter most this holiday season,’’ chief executive Niraj Shah said in a statement. ‘‘With a selection of more than 5 million products, we’re confident that Wayfair.com shoppers can easily find just the right gifts for everyone on their list.’’
One of several items likely to sell briskly this holiday season is the trampoline, Wayfair.com said. Trampolines have been popular for several years, but the success of the US women’s gym team at the Summer Olympics has cranked up demand.
Because of the tough economy, many folks are buying gifts for the whole family, rather than individual gifts for every family member. For that reason, Wayfair.com expects air-hockey tables to have a good holiday run.
And with the locavore trend in full cry, Wafair.com is laying in a full line of chicken coops, with prices ranging from just over $100 to more than $1,500.
As the company’s press release notes: “The trend of raising chickens in the backyard has been sweeping the country for a couple of years now and seems to be propelled by Americans’ interest in more self-reliance as well as an interest in locally-raised food. Wayfair.com carries more than 30 different types of chicken coops.’’
