Man, 23, shot in Dorchester; sustains life-threatening injuries

A 23-year-old male was shot multiple times and suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday night in Dorchester, police said.

A call reporting the shooting at 66 Elmont St. came in at 8:36 p.m., though police believe the shooting occurred closer to 39 Elmont St., police Superintendent Kenneth Fong said at the scene of the shooting.

The victim, who has not been identified, was shot three or four times and was taken to Boston Medical Center, Fong said. Police were searching for the suspect late Thursday night.

Four orange cones marked part of the crime scene on Elmont Street as police searched for evidence with flashlights. Neighbors said they did not see nor hear the shooting, but that the incident was a rare sight in their neighborhood.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, though I’ve heard about stuff all around,’’ said one witness who declined to give her name for fear of her safety. “Kids need to knock it off with those guns. … My cousin doesn’t even come out of the house because of stuff like this.’’
