Woman held on $500,000 bail for allegedly striking two pedestrians, killing one, while driving drunk in Dorchester

A 24-year-old Dorchester woman has been ordered held on $500,000 bail for allegedly running over two pedestrians while driving drunk early Saturday, authorities said.

One victim, a 30-year-old Dorchester man, died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Monday afternoon, according to Jake Wark, spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.

Hours earlier, Champree Dinkins pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in Dorchester District Court to charges of operating under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Prosecutors expected to upgrade the charges in light of the death, Wark said.

The other victim in Dorchester crash, a 35-year-old woman, is expected to recover.

“The circumstances remain under investigation, including whether this was a deliberate act,’’ Wark said.
