C. Bruce Brown, the father of US Senator Scott Brown, died today, the senator’s office said in a statement. The elder Brown was 75.
C. Bruce Brown, who lived in Newburyport, was divorced from Brown’s mother and absent much of his life. Brown wrote extensively about his longing for his father in his autobiography, “Against All Odds.’’
But in later years, they reunited. The elder Brown had suffered from Parkinson’s disease for years and Brown told supporters at a holiday party last Friday that he intended to be at his bedside all weekend.
“Growing up, my relationship with my Dad was a complicated one,’’ Brown said in a statement first reported by Fox-25. “As we have both matured, our relationship, respect and love for each other also matured. He was a good man with a big heart.’’
Brown said in the statement that he and his wife, Gail, and their two daughters expressed their appreciation to his father’s wife.
“Gail, Ayla and Arianna and I are thankful for his wife Peggy, her family and their unwavering love for him during his final days,’’ Brown said in the statement. “I will miss his guidance and sense of humor.’’
Funeral arrangments were not immediately available.
