“Les Misérables’’ soundtrack is No. 1 on Billboard 200 chart

On stage or on screen, the music from Les Mis is a hit.

In addition to grabbing several Oscar nominations for how it looked, including Best Picture, Lead Actor (handsome Hugh, of course), and Supporting Actress (heavenly Hathaway), one of the tracks on the “Les Miserables’’ movie soundtrack, “Suddenly,’’ is nominated alongside Adele’s “Skyfall’’ for Best Original Song. (Click here to hear to Hugh Jackman sing it.) And the soundtrack reached No. 1 this week on the Billboard 200 chart.

The release is more than keeping pace with Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, so if these two know what’s good for them, they’ll go on the road with the “We Dreamed A Dream On Our Own’’ Tour. (And frankly, we’re a little curious about One Direction’s “Take Me Home’’ title because it sounds a lot like the “Les Mis’’ track “Bring Him Home.’’)

Of the 20 tracks on “Les Misérables: Highlights From The Motion Picture Soundtrack,’’ it’s the one new song catching all the attention. “Suddenly’’ was written exclusively for the film by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the guys who wrote the Tony-winning musical. In the film, it’s sung by Jackman.
