A three-alarm fire tore through a multi-family home in Lynn late this morning, Lynn fire officials said.

“The battle is lost. At this point, they’re just trying to protect anything else that isn’t on fire,’’ said Lynn District Fire Chief Arthur Richard.

The fire struck the two-family home at 57 Murray St. just before 10:30 a.m. The entire Lynn Fire Department responded to the scene, along with engines from Saugus, Salem, and Swampscott, Richard said.

“It doesn’t look good. It’s a total loss, I’m sure,’’ he said. Richard grew up on Murray Street and knew the “huge’’ two-family home well.

The building is a two-story, wood-frame home, built about 1920, according to on-line assessors’ records.

No injuries to the home’s occupants were reported, though one dog is missing. Richard did not know if any firefighters had been injured.
