Authorities investigating Allston credit card fraud; Blanchard’s Liquors acknowledges involvement

Authorities are investigating numerous complaints of credit card fraud in Allston, a Boston police spokeswoman said today.

Officer Neva Coakley said Boston police detectives, the Secret Service, and several major banks are looking into reports by residents of the neighborhood that their credit card information was stolen and used to make fraudulent purchases.

Complaints by residents in the online forum centered around Blanchard’s Liquors, a large shop on Harvard Avenue popular with students.

While police would not confirm that the investigation was centered on a particular store, Blanchard’s manager John Corey acknowledged that the store had received complaints, and said managers were cooperating with authorities investigating the fraud.

Corey said the problem may be linked to the company Blanchard’s uses to process credit card purchases.

“There might have been a problem with one of the credit card processors,’’ Corey said. “We’ve been working with the people that have been complaining, and the different companies and authorities to get to the bottom of it.’’

Corey said that, as of Saturday, “the problem has been resolved.’’
