Woman dies after being hit while crossing street in downtown Boston

A woman died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a street in downtown Boston on Sunday, police said.

The woman, who police say was about 80 years old, was struck in the area of Stuart and Charles streets shortly before 6:30 a.m., said a statement from Boston Police.

The woman was taken to Tufts Medical Center for serious head trauma and was later pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman told officers he did not see the pedestrian in the roadway, police said.

As of Sunday evening, no violations had been issued, police said.


Police asked anyone with information to call 617-343-4470 to speak to detectives of the department’s Accident Reconstruction Team, which is investigating the incident including its cause.

Department spokesman Officer James Kenneally declined to release further details citing the ongoing investigation.
