‘80s prom held in Somerville

Somerville Local First hosted its ‘80s Prom fund-raiser on June 21. Prom goers dragged out the old tuxedos, aviators, and neon colors to celebrate everything local in style.
The organization provided drinks, food, and slinkies to get everyone in the mood to groove.

More than 140 people gathered to get their dance on at Somerville’s ‘80s Prom.

Beth C., of Jamaica Plain, crashed Somerville’s prom and won best-dressed honors.

Attendees enjoyed Truly Outrageous Punch, made with Ice Glen vodka, watermelon, honeydew, strawberry simple, lime juice, club soda, and stars.

From left to right: Cassie Yip, Alan Kwan, and Christina Yung posed in the photo booth. Yung, who is from Somerville, said she dragged her friends along for the ride. “I’ve wanted to do prom again for a while, so I’ve been waiting for a prom-themed party!’’ Yung said.

Catie Ferrara, left, and Jenny Moy giggled in the photo booth. “We love Somerville, the ‘80s, prom, and local businesses. It’s the quadfecta,’’ Moy said. “Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to funky town.’’

From left to right: Elizabeth Natola, Jaclyn Sainay, Brandy Brooks, and Pardis Saffari met at the prom. Sainay and Saffari are members of Cambridge Local First, so they said this is a great way to support their neighboring community.

Attendees enjoyed vodka lemonade provided by Daddy Jones Bar, made with Tito’s vodka, fresh lemons, sugar, and sage.

The audience cheered for members who they felt were the best dressed.

Retro suits were a hit at Somerville’s ‘80s prom night.

Brother and sister Scott and Jen Hagen and sisters Ryan and Carline Keith attended the prom as sibling dates. “We believe in the area, and it’s important that people come out for these things,’’ Jen Hagen said. “It’s our community and we’re happy to come!’’
