Cheeseboy celebrates grilled-cheese milestone

It’s a case of high excitement at Cheeseboy — the Boston-based chain with nine locations said that it has recently surpassed the one million mark in grilled cheese sandwich sales since its launch in 2009.

Needless to say, such an achievement merits a contest that amounts to the cheese equivalent of a 21-gun salute. And so through Aug. 31, Cheeseboy is asking folks to submit essays that address the question, “What would you do for one million grilled cheese sandwiches?’’ In 200 words or fewer, responses must demonstrate how the author would use $10,000 to help make an impact in the world, the company said. The grand-prize winner will have $10,000 donated towards his or her charitable initiative and receive a Cheeseboy Rewards Card valid for one grilled cheese sandwich per week for life, the company said.

In a statement, company founder and president Michael Inwald said, “Making a positive social impact and providing comfort to others in need are principles that I personally value, and they are pillars on which Cheeseboy was founded.’’
