A Newport, R.I., woman was found today near the Bourne rotary with a serious head injury, according to Bourne fire officials.
A report came in around 9:11 a.m. that a woman wearing rollerblades was hurt and crawling around on Canal Service Road in Bourne. When firefighters arrived on scene, officials decided the woman’s injuries were serious enough to warrant transportation to Boston.
“She was confused and unsure of her location or the events leading to the incident,’’ said Dave Cody, Bourne deputy fire chief. “She had some obvious trauma to the back of her head.’’
A MedFlight helicopter was requested at 9:29 a.m. The woman, who was about 25 years old, was en route to Brigham and Women’s Hospital by 9:56 a.m., Cody said.
Massachusetts State Police set up an emergency landing pad at the State Police barracks in Bourne, but no traffic was rerouted or stopped.
“Traffic did slow due to the curiosity factor of a helicopter taking off and landing, but other than that, traffic was not impacted,’’ said Trooper Todd Nolan, a State Police spokesman.
