Lows to reach 40s, even 30s, in some areas later this week as region gets a foretaste of fall

WBZ AccuWeather Midday Forecast For Sept. 4

A dry air mass has pushed into the region, bringing seasonable temperatures and sunshine to Massachusetts. Dew points will drop into the 50s, and temperatures will crest around 80, according to the National Weather Service.

A cool west wind will develop today, bringing gusts of up to 13 miles per hour. Some clouds will surface tonight, but skies will stay clear in most regions. Temperatures will cool into the low 60s tonight.

Thursday will be mostly clear, though a chance of showers exists until about 9 a.m. Showers are most likely north of Route 2. Temperatures will be in the upper 60s, making for a cool, fall-like day. The chill will continue overnight as temperatures fall into the 40s, according to the weather service.

Friday will again see dry conditions, and temperatures aren’t expected to climb over 70. A sea breeze should develop, cooling temperatures slightly. Sun is likely Friday, and should continue through the weekend.

“Friday morning we are likely to see our first temperatures in the 30s for the season,’’ said weather service meteorologist William Babcock.

Saturday and Sunday will mirror each other, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s. Rain is unlikely all weekend, and a dry spell could last into early next week, according to the weather service.

“The state will start warming up a bit over the weekend into the 70s,’’ Babcock said.
