TNT silent after officer’s suicide

The producers of “Boston’s Finest’’ were mum Wednesday about the death of Pat Rogers, one of the Boston police officers featured on the TNT reality show. The Dorchester native, who’d been on the force for eight years, committed suicide Tuesday afternoon, just hours before cable network was to screen the show’s Season 2 premiere at the Revere Hotel. The screening was subsequently canceled. “Boston’s Finest,’’ which is coproduced by Donnie Wahlberg and his brother Bob, follows several members of the Boston Police Department, including officers, detectives, the harbor patrol, and the decorated gang unit. Although he’s described on the show’s website as “tough as any cop on the street,’’ Rogers came across on “Boston’s Finest’’ as relaxed and friendly, providing the show with a measure of comic relief. Rogers (inset) didn’t appear on camera often during Season 1, but in some scenes his unmistakable Boston accent was used in voice-overs. It’s not known how much Rogers shows up in Season 2, which is supposed to debut Tuesday. Neither TNT nor the Wahlbergs returned our calls Wednesday, but we’re told the network may edit episodes or even delay the premiere. “[They] are going to make a decision that is respectful to the situation and all involved,’’ said a source close to the show.
