ReadBoston and Zagat throw parties

For a lame duck, Mayor Tom Menino does manage to stay busy. The other night, Hizzoner was in fine form as he hosted the 2013 Hometown Authors reception benefiting the literary charity ReadBoston. The event at the Hotel Commonwealth included loads of local writers, including Paul Harding, a Pulitzer winner for his first novel, “Tinkers,’’ Joseph Finder, Robert Pinsky, Hank Phillippi Ryan, ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan, and Mark Bodanza, author of “Make It Count: The Life and Times of Basketball Great Jo Jo White.’’ (White was there as well.) The crowd was also treated to a four-song acoustic set by the Dropkick Murphys. . . . Meanwhile, Tim Zagat threw a party to celebrate Zagat Survey’s list of rising stars on the hospitality scene in Boston. Among those on the 30 Under 30 list are Molly Hopper Sandrof, director of staff development for Garrett Harker’s restaurants, Katie Emmerson, bar manager at The Hawthorne, Andrew Foster, co-owner of Fairsted Kitchen, Enlightenment Ales founder Ben Howe, Emily Larkins, wine director at Craigie on Main, and Rachel Miller, sous-chef at Bondir Concord.
