Alec Baldwin will executive produce Barney Frank biopic

In a case of life imitating art, “Saturday Night Live’’ style, Alec Baldwin will executive produce the upcoming Barney Frank biopic, “Compared to What: The Improbable Journey of Barney Frank,’’ debuting April 27 at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival. (We’ve previously reported that Baldwin will take part in what will surely be a lively discussion with Frank after the screening.) Back in 2005, Baldwin was cast as Frank in an SNL skit featuring Darrell Hammond as talk host Bill O’Reilly and Chris Parnell as Senator John McCain
. Three years later, Baldwin bashed Frank on Bill Maher’s “Real Time’’ for “propping up’’ Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac during the housing crisis. Today Baldwin calls Frank, the first openly gay congressman, his “personal hero,’’ which if nothing else could provide fresh fodder for Lorne Michaels’s “SNL’’ writing crew.
