These photos of Maine flowers covered in late-April snow are so sad

This can’t be what they meant when they said, “April showers bring May flowers?”

A mid-spring snowstorm hit Maine on Tuesday. The late-April flurries led to a reduced speed limit in certain areas and incited a general “can-you-believe-this?” reaction from locals on social media, who shared photos of the freak flakes.

Many of those pictures showed a sad sight: bright flowers, a quintessential sign of springtime, covered in snow and ice.

New England had a (comparatively) mild winter this year, and temperatures even jumped up into the mid-60s last week in Maine.

On Tuesday, though, that didn’t stop New England weather from doing what it always does: whatever the heck it wants.
