Massachusetts will see a few more hours of accumulating snowfall on Tuesday before the “persistent winter storm” that has been impacting the region since Sunday finally takes its leave from southern New England.
The National Weather Service warned that heavy snow in the Boston area would make for a “very slow commute.”
“Snow will end as the morning progresses from west to east,” service forecasters wrote. “By noon snow should be confined to eastern coastal [Massachusetts] including Boston and Cape Cod.”

The storm, which began Sunday, is forecast to continue to bring additional snowfall to the region through Tuesday afternoon. Most of Massachusetts is under either a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory through noon.
So far, the service estimates eastern Massachusetts has seen between two and eight inches of accumulation, while the central and western parts of the state have observed higher totals ranging from nine inches in Hudson to 22 in Lenox.
Here are five maps predicting how much more snow to expect from the storm:

Snow will linger this morning. Will be watching radar trends as storm continues to undergo development. Snow has been very banded. Meaning it goes from heavy to light quickly/over short distances. Low confidence higher snow Essex to coastal Norfolk/Plymouth Counties. pic.twitter.com/UdUoDU4PFD

Additional snowfall of 2-5″ is still possible along the coast. Beware band of heavy snow that will produce the highest totals. @boston25 pic.twitter.com/OtLHDixY3B

WBZ:
Okay…a snowfall update. No major changes. Remains a challenging call and I’m sure there will be some surprises.
Best odds of anything over 6″ would be with some ocean enhancement parts of the South Shore/Cape Ann.
