Sure, temperatures will reach into the 60s on Friday. But it’s going to snow this weekend.
“People don’t want to hear that,” said Bill Simpson, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton.
Temperatures are expected to drop about 30 degrees between Friday and Tuesday, said Simpson.
“It’s kind of a gradual drop,” said Simpson. “The coldest days are Monday and Tuesday. Monday morning’s temperatures, they’re going to be at or below freezing.”
So what can we expect for our first April snow of 2016?
Simpson said the Boston area can expect a dusting to an inch of snow Saturday night into Sunday. And on Monday, 1 to 3 inches may fall in Greater Boston. Areas north and west of I-495 are likely to see the most snow, he said.
The white stuff may be unwelcome, but it’s not unprecedented. Boston averages three inches of snow in April.
“This is normal,” Simpson said.
In April of 1982, Boston saw 13.3 inches of the white stuff. And the April Fool’s Day Blizzard of 1997 dumped more than 2 feet of snow on the region.
