Watch a Mount Washington Observatory scientist brave 110 mph winds

The observatory recorded gusts as high as 119 mph on Thursday.

Some Massachusetts residents saw wind gusts ranging from 40-55 mph on Thursday, but that was nothing compared to the ones scientists witnessed atop New England’s tallest peak.

Weather observers at the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire said they got the chance to “play” in winds that reached over 110 mph.

A Facebook video posted by the observatory shows one of its team members struggling to stay upright against the buffeting winds. The observatory said the strongest gust recorded over the course of the day was 119 mph.
