Happy Independence Day everyone! I am watching some severe storms now across northern New England. There is a severe thunderstorm watch up for much of that area. These storms are moving southeast and could clip the area from about Boston north and east between 9pm and midnight. It is going to be a very close call whether this impacts the events on the Esplanade or not. The storms are moving such that they could stay west until after the events are over. It may be as close as Lynn gets storms and Boston doesn’t. We are going to have to watch the radar minute by minute until the threat is over around midnight.
You can see on the radar loop below the severe storms to our north and west. These storms are associated with some very strong energy rotating south towards the area. The timing couldn’t be much worse for these storms as they will be in the area from about 9 to midnight. Rest of the day
The bright white on the moving satellite are clouds. The darker areas are clear skies. You can see, quite nicely, the line of as it moved off the coast. Now, we have puffy cumulus clouds that could grow further into showers. That is what I will be watching the rest of the afternoon and evening.
Noon-8PM-Sunshine, humid with clouds. Watching radar for storm development. 80s
8PM-Midnight-Partly cloudy, mostly dry, stray shower 70s
Thursday and the weekend.
Sunshine and warm temperatures return for the end of the week. Humidity levels will be low Thursday and Friday before briefly going higher Saturday. Saturday is also going to be very hot with temperatures in the 90s. Late in the weekend another front approaches and moves through the area. This front could kick off a few showers and storms, but it will bring an end to the heat and humidity. This front will also usher in a new pattern for next week which looks cooler and drier.
The map below shows the position of the jet stream for the second week of July. It appears that much of the heat will be pushed far to the south. While not unusual, this break in the pattern doesn’t always happen in July. When you think about all the heat in much of the rest of the country, we really are in a great spot.
Gardening this week
Watering is the big issue this week with the garden. Otherwise, my garden is doing quite well this year. I hope your garden is growing great too. I have had a few issues this year, mostly with slugs. Take a look at the video below and watch me give an update of my own garden. I hope it helps you in yours.
