The talk the past few days has been of showers moving into the area for the second part of the week and while this is still the case, it’s really the weekend that is going to be impacted. Today is a great beach day with sunshine and some high cloudiness. Temperatures will be very warm again reaching to the upper 80s to near 90. The humidity also will be high for the next 4 days so plan on keeping the air conditioning on unless you don’t mind stale crackers and moldy bread. As you might notice, food goes bad very fast in warm humid weather. The threat of showers increases slightly late tonight and during the day Friday but it’s from the Friday PM commute through late Saturday that will be the wettest.Have you got a weather or garden question? A flow of warm and very warm air will great New Englanders this morning. Temperatures are starting out near 70 and don’t have very far to go to exceed the mid 80s. High clouds will filter across the sky today but in general this is going to be a nice rain free August day.
Overnight more clouds will spill into the region and there is the chance for one or two spots, especially north and west of Route 495, to see a quick shower. Most of us just remain warm and humid all night with temperatures around 70F give or take a degree or two.
The end of the workweek will be most dry. You will notice a lot more cloud cover tomorrow and therefore temperatures will not be as warm staying in the 80-85F degree range. Humidity continues to run at tropical levels so the lower temperatures won’t matter much. In terms of showers, the area of showers is moving so slowly from the west that I don’t expect them to be into the area until around the evening commute. It’s a watch the radar day tomorrow and just see how everything unfolds.
Friday night and Saturday
Energy in the upper atmosphere will move across the area during this time period. This energy will help lift the air and create clouds, showers and even a thunderstorm. If you see rain during the overnight Friday and/or Saturday it could be heavy. There is so much moisture in the air, that any showers that do occur could cause some minor street flooding until they pass. Saturday ranks a 2 out of 10.
Saturday night and Sunday
The system will swing through the area and the showers will end. Sunday will be less humid, though not totally without some humidity. There will be a blend of clouds and sunshine. A quick shower is still possible, but clearly Sunday is the better of the two weekend days. I will rank it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
Meteor shower this weekend

The rain that is on the way means that I can put down lime on my lawn today. I like to mow the lawn and then put down the lime just before it rains which helps wash it into the soil. From mid-August through until October (November for some plants) is perfect for planting. This is the time of year you can see where you have some gaps in the garden that need filling. Also start thinking about bulbs that might need to be ordered now.
Below is a video on a great plant I put in the garden last year at this time. The plants are looking terrific this year and had a great spring bloom.
