Heat wave number two on the way…maybe

First the heat, then the rain, now it’s back to the heat for the weekend, maybe. The extremes of June are going to take us in to July. Today and tomorrow are transitional days away from that pesky storm still sitting to the north of Maine. As that storm finally dies and moves away, some of the heat from the west will cross into New England for a few days.
Right now it appears we could have three days in a row of 90+ degree heat which would be our second heatwave of the summer. Humidity levels would also be high once again and for some, this could be an uncomfortable weekend. If you like hot beach weather, this may be a great weekend for you. For the past several days a storm has been stuck rotating around to our north. Finally, this weekend, the storm will loosen its influence on us. As that happens, it will allow some of the heat that has been out west to move eastward. This doesn’t appear to be a major heat wave for the area, just a short 3 day bought of it. Friday and Monday, the two book end days of the heat wave will be warm in the 80s, but it’s suppose to warm this time of year.

Latest models put doubt on the heat.

As of 1pm, one of the models is showing that a slight shift of the jet stream south, could, and I emphasize could, keep the heat south of us this weekend. I don’t like to change forecasts back and forth so, for now, I will just say things could change significantly in the next day or so. Below is the blog written from a few hours ago. This would be the case if we get the heat. This will be a close call, stay tuned.
This is really our last day with a significant chance of showers in the afternoon. The air mass is beginning to change, so our chances for storms are decreasing. The most likely spots to see any showers will be New Hampshire into Maine and eastern Massachusetts. There will be less of a chance of showers the further south and west you move. You will see some breaks of sunshine today and temperatures will not be as cool as the past couple of days. I expect high temperatures to rebound into the 70s this afternoon. Overnight will be another comfortable night for sleeping with low humidity and cool temperatures in the 50s and lower 60s.
Although not hot, Thursday will be much warmer than the past 5 days with highs reaching back into the 80s for most of the areas. Coastal beaches on the Cape will be slightly cooler but only by a few degrees. Humidity will still be low. Overall, tomorrow is going to be a great day.
Friday through Sunday
All three days will feature heat and humidity. Temperatures will be hot and humidity high. I expect 90 degree readings to be found from interior Maine through the rest of New England. Parts of the coast and elevations about 1500 feet will be the only places to escape the heat this weekend.
Below is a graph that shows the weather for both Saturday and Sunday. This is for the Boston area, but you can use it for most of New England. Just remember, some areas will be cooler and others a bit hotter.

Gardening this week
The heat, the rain, the sunshine. My garden is doing quite well this year. I hope your garden is growing great too. I have had a few issues this year, mostly with slugs. Take a look at the video below and watch me give an update of my own garden. I hope it helps you in yours.
