Great weekend weather will have a minor interuption

A few clouds this morning will move east and out to sea leaving most New Englanders with a sunny mild afternoon. There will be some clouds and a brief chance for an evening shower over Cape Cod. Winds will be light and temperatures will near the 70F. If you took all the September 21sts for the past three decades and averaged their high temperatures together you would get to about 70F so today is right in line with what we expect. Clear skies will continue for much of the upcoming weekend with brief period of clouds and showers late Saturday night and early Sunday. The timing on this is such that the showers should not impact any weekend plans.Follow me on Twitter for more updates and insight about the weather at @growingwisdom and check out my latest videos at

We have to clear away the high clouds first then the afternoon will turn sunny. The only difference to that forecast is across Cape Cod and the Islands where clouds will remain much of the day and a few quick showers could occur between about 4PM and 8PM. There will be a better chance of showers over the ocean, and the western edge of these showers is what may clip the outer portions of the Cape. For the rest of us its that slow return to sunshine after a cloudy start. This will be a dry day to get outside at lunch or if you have the day off take the kids apple picking to avoid the crowds of the weekend. Overnight will be another clear and calm night. Temperatures will fall to the 40s in the suburbs and remain in the 50s in the city. There may be some early morning patches of fog Saturday.

This weekend

A cold front will drop south and east crossing off the coast early Sunday. This front marks the leading edge of cooler air that will keep temperatures feeling a bit chilly to start next week. That air will be sitting over the Midwest this weekend where temperatures will be running only in the lower 60s. Part of northern Michigan will see sleet mixed in with rain this weekend. Winter is coming.
Saturday will be the mildest day of the weekend with highs in the lower and even middle 70s for the afternoon. Sunday will be a bit cooler but temperatures will still make it into the upper 60s and lower 70s
Next week
The first week of fall looks very nice with afternoon temperatures in the 60s and nighttime lows in the 40s. I don’t see any super cold or warm air in sight nor are there any rain storms in our future.

Foliage Sept 21.png

Foliage this weekend

This time of the year the foliage is rapidly changing especially across northern and western New England. The higher you go, the better the color this weekend. A few cold mornings this week across Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine prompted frost and freeze warning.

The colder weather is helping to bring on stronger colors. The best weather to view foliage will be Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon across the north. Later Saturday and for the first few hours of Sunday clouds and the chance of showers are in the forecast. It will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s depending on where you are this weekend (northern New England) with the coolest weather in the mountains.
Gardening this week
This time of the year many weeds are creating seeds to produce new weeds for next spring. There are several things you can do right now, to make your garden closer to weed free for 2013. In this video I show you how I help control weeds in my own garden without using chemicals.
