One more day of super weather for today before humidity and showers return to the region for a pair of days to close out the work week. The weekend will see a return to sunshine and seasonable temperatures.I’ll be updating the details of the weather on Twitter at @growingwisdom Please follow me there. We have several weather changes taking place over the next three days. The first change will be for the high pressure system, which provided this latest stretch of near perfect weather, to move offshore. The high will linger long enough today to give one more stellar day of sunshine and comfortable levels of humidity.
Towards the end of the day you will notice more in the way of clouds in the western sky. This is the forerunner of a warm front moving north. As the front pushes through the area early Thursday a quick shot of showers will accompany its passage. The most likely time for showers will be tomorrow morning. After the showers pass, there will be a break in the action with further showers possible in the afternoon as a cold front approaches. Each round of showers could be heavy, but won’t last more than an hour or two. In the afternoon round of showers, thunder could also be possible.
Humidity levels will rapidly increase by tomorrow afternoon and the air will have that tropical feeling we have been missing since the weekend. The good news is that the humidity isn’t going to last very long.
Temperatures on Thursday will reach the upper 70s and lower 80s even with all the clouds. While there may be a break or two of sunshine, clouds will dominate the sky throughout the day.
The two radar images below show one models prediction for when it will rain tomorrow. There are two distinct periods of showers forecast with each front and this is one what I am basing my thinking for the day. Although these images are for two specific times, it’s the trend to pay attention to, not the exact time. Models aren’t 100% accurate on timing, but pretty good with trend.
On Friday more atmospheric energy will slowly cross the area bringing an additional chance for showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will be in the 70s and humidity still quite high. Any showers could be quite heavy with torrential downpours.
The image below shows what the radar may look like during Friday in the later half of the morning.
The first part of the weekend forecast hinges on the weather system clearing the coast. Depending on exactly how fast the area of clouds and showers ultimately moves, we could see one more round of a few showers the first part of Saturday. Even if this occurs, there will still be a blend of clouds and sunshine, it just won’t be rain free.
Sunday is my pick for the weekend with sunny skies and pleasant temperatures. Humidity levels will also be low and the weather will resemble what you will see today. Highs will be in the 78-84 degree range and overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
Gardening this week
If you have a sunny spot and a good size container, how about planting carrots? Carrots can be successfully grown in containers and you will be surprised how many you will get. One of the most important things is to not over water the soil. Check out the video below showing how I recently planted a container of carrots.
