Cloudy overnight, cooler start to the week

Although the weather is mostly tranquil across the area this weekend, there is plenty of interesting things to write about in the weather department. Clouds are overtaking the area tonight and there could be a quick shower towards morning. Skies clear later Sunday as a cool Canadian air mass moves into the region.

One of the most interesting pieces of data to me is the fact we have not had a hurricane yet this season in the Atlantic basin. Since 1960, the latest we have ever seen the first hurricane of the season form in the Atlantic is September 11th. If we make it to mid-morning on Wednesday, then we will break that 60 year old record.
While there continues to be a few areas of clouds and thunderstorms that may possibly develop into something more organized, the likelihood is small this will happen.
Looking ahead to next week, there is going to be a brief blast of warm to hot air for September 11th as temperatures get back into the middle and upper 80s. There is an outside chance we hit 90F, if we get enough sunshine. Don’t think if we do that is going to break a record because the high temperature record for that date is a whopping 99F set back 30 years ago.
The road to getting that warm will be paved with several changes in our weather. . Overnight, as a cold front approaches from northern New England, a southerly flow ahead of it will help keep temperatures much milder than the past few nights. The low in Boston will fall into the middle 60s and even the suburbs will be 10 to 15 degrees milder than the past few nights.
The front passes through the area tomorrow morning ushering in another shot of cool fall-like air for the start of the week. You will notice the breeze kicking up tomorrow afternoon and the air will start to feel a bit chilly by nightfall.
On Monday skies will be sunny, but it will be chilly. When you awake in the morning most areas will be in the 40s and it will reach the upper 60s in the afternoon. Tuesday, a warm front approaches from the south and west. There may be some additional cloudiness, but on balance it will be a nice day. It’s going to feel warm with highs reaching the 70s. We then lead into Wednesday, when it will be warm and humid.
The end of the week brings a few showers and cooler air quite typical of the second week of September.
I know there is a Patriots game tomorrow in Buffalo. Temperatures will be in the 60s for the game and it will partly cloudy. In terms of wind, it will be blowing from the north or northeast averaging a steady 12 miles per hour.
Gardening this week
Not that long ago I was fortunate to take a trip to Ecuador. The country is very beautiful and known for a wonderful growing climate. In this video I show you some of my visit to a farm that grows roses for markets all over the world.
