Beach weather returns after some much needed rain

After a comparatively cool weekend, a stellar Monday afternoon is on tap with great weather for most of this week. Temperatures will return to August levels with moderate levels of humidity.

The weekend air arrived from Canada and off the coast keeping high temperatures well under the 80 degree mark and even under 70 degrees in some coastal communities on Sunday.

Pleasing Everyone

I am excited about the weather this week because I think it pleases everyone. There is going to be some beach weather, some rain, a few nights of comfortable sleeping weather, clear skies for the Perseid meteor shower which will peak before sunrise Thursday and Friday this week. I will be writing more about this in another blog.

Much Needed Rain
A slow moving cold front will cross the area tomorrow and bring with it a punch of humidity and showers. I expect two rounds of showers during the day, with less of a chance for rain between, but not necessarily rain free.

The morning rain should begin at the end of the commute and then continue for a few hours. There may be some heavier downpours at this time. After this first push of rain the humidity will become noticeably more intense.

During the afternoon and evening, as the actual front moves east, thunderstorms, some of which may be strong to severe will grow. As is the case with most predictions of storms, I can’t say for sure if you will see one or how bad it may or may not turn out. However, the chance of strong storms does exist in the tropical air Tuesday.

The greatest risk from these storms will be small hail, frequent lightning and perhaps some gusty winds. During the second half of the overnight skies will clear and set us up for a nice day on Wednesday, though not 100 percent rain free.

There is a chance Wednesday afternoon of a pop-up shower as some upper level (18,000 feet high) energy passes over us. This could initiate a few showers, but conditions won’t be conducive for thunderstorms.

Beach Weather

Much of the rest of the week and into the upcoming weekend appears to feature warm summertime temperatures and abundant sunshine. There might be a quick shower with a front Saturday, but this isn’t written in stone.

Although August hasn’t featured much heat, there are continued signs we won’t see a cool September overall. Very often, global patterns such as the one we are in currently bring a warm end to summer even if there wasn’t big heat during the main summer months.
