This month, after a wet October—and Octobers generally have been trending wetter in recent years—it’s so far been back to the drought pattern we’ve seen this year and last. The latest drought monitor shows nearly the entire northeast corridor in some sort of drier-than-average pattern, with no rain in sight.

As for this particular weekend, expect temperatures to fall and winds to rise Friday evening. While it won’t be a mid-winter sting, you’ll notice it.

Both Saturday and Sunday will be sunny and dry. Saturday will be the colder of the two.

If you are going hiking, biking, or running…

No weather issues means this a great weekend for a long run or hike. The winds of Friday night will be less of an issue by Saturday, although it will remain chilly.

If you’re playing soccer, softball, football, or golf…

Plan on bundling up Saturday and Sunday morning. It won’t warm up much on Saturday, only reaching the 40s, but it’ll get back into the 50s on Sunday, with light winds.

If you’re skiing…

Call ahead. As of publication, only Killington Resort in Vermont is open, but others may open as cold air comes through and snow making continues at night.

If you’re raking and gardening…

The positive side of the dryness is that it’s much easier to get your yard cleaned up for winter when the leaves aren’t matted down, wet, and soggy. Winds will be brisk Saturday so it might be a better day to cut back perennials and put hoses and the like away. Sunday will be milder and better for raking.

If you’re running errands…

Either day is going to be dry and sunny.

If you’re going to a concert, outdoor party, or wedding…

Any outdoor event will happen with full cooperation from the weather.

I will be updating the forecast on Twitter @growingwisdom throughout the weekend.
