Map: Some areas of eastern Massachusetts got 8 inches of snow early this week

Southeastern Massachusetts was hit the hardest.

The highest accumulation came from Acushnet, where 7.5 to 8 inches of snow reportedly fell, according to William Babcock, a National Weather Service meteorologist. (Craig F. Walker / Globe staff) section: metro reporter:

If you live just north of Boston, you may be surprised to hear that residents just south of the city got hit with 5-8 inches of snow Monday night into Tuesday.

Snowfall totals increased drastically from northwest to southeast, with Lexington receiving only 0.8 inches to Kingston’s 8, according to a snowfall map put out by the National Weather Service on Tuesday night.

A bit more snow is expected early Friday, with most of the state looking at 1-2 inches.
