Heavy rain and scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across most of Massachusetts on Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists with the service said that central and western Massachusetts are at the most risk for seeing the severe storms between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.

“Some areas of rain showers will move into the region over the next couple hours, followed by a line of heavy rain and thunderstorms later this evening,” the service said Tuesday morning.
