Here’s how hot it could get in Massachusetts this weekend

Meteorologists are warning the Bay State could be in for a heat wave.

Massachusetts residents can expect “another fantastic summer day” on Wednesday, but National Weather Service meteorologists say rain and a potential heat wave will round out the rest of the week.

Rain showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the Bay State starting Wednesday evening and continuing Thursday, bringing some “beneficial” moisture to the region.

The wet weather will be followed by some scorching temperatures through the weekend, according the service.

“Heat builds Friday through Sunday with the possibility of a heat wave as hot conditions linger into Monday,” forecasters said on Wednesday.

[Friday → Monday] 🎷The heat is on, on the street 🎷… certainly if black-top & in direct sunlight, seriously; talking the possibility of heat advisories when combining humidity resulting in heat indices ≥ 95° … potential for heat-related illness w/ prolonged exposure

The service said there is potential for heat advisories to be issued, with Sunday predicted to be the warmest day with widespread highs in the low 90s.

“There is the risk across interior portions of Southern New England of reaching heat advisory criteria with heat indices and/or temperatures at or above 95 degrees for two or more consecutive days,” the service said.
