It’s going to be another hot and humid day in Massachusetts on Wednesday, but forecasters are predicting the state could see some rain and thunder starting this afternoon.

The National Weather Service says a heat advisory remains in effect for the third day in a row for most of Massachusetts until 6 p.m., with high temperatures expected to range from the upper 80s to lower 90s.

“A few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon through Thursday,” meteorologists said. “Main threat would be very localized strong to damaging wind gusts.”

The service cautioned that any thunderstorms that develop could produce “torrential rainfall” and cause localized flooding.

According to the service’s forecast for Boston, the rain and thunderstorms are forecast largely after 2 p.m. in the city.
