Forecasters are warning that strong or severe thunderstorms could impact Massachusetts on Friday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service said the strongest storms are expected to occur between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. in the central part of the Bay State.

“Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat, but localized flash flooding is also possible along with a low risk of an isolated tornado,” service forecasters said.

Meteorologists predict a chance of showers in Boston between 1 and 2 p.m., with the thunderstorms potentially arriving after 2 p.m. The chance of strong thunderstorms continues into Saturday, according to the service.

The service expects high temperatures to range from the low to high 80s.
