Raincoats and umbrellas will be necessary accessories on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting Massachusetts will see “showers and a few thunderstorms” during the afternoon and evening.

In Boston, the showers and thunderstorms are forecast overnight between 1 a.m. and 5  a.m., according to the service’s seven-day outlook for the city.

“Locally heavy rainfall possible,” the meteorologists said. “Some low clouds and a few showers may linger into part of Wednesday, but unseasonable afternoon warmth follows Thursday ahead of a cold front.”
