Here’s David Epstein’s forecast for Memorial Day weekend

It's generally going to be a great one.

Over the past week, you’ve probably noticed that the weather has started to really shift. We’ve moved from early spring weather into an early summer pattern.

This weekend is the final full weekend of meteorological spring. There will be times when you’ll know that summer is basically here. Winds will be from the east and then turn onshore from the east on Monday.

I don’t expect any major weather problems this weekend, the unofficial start of summer. Here’s your complete weekend weather forecast.

Thursday and Friday bring pleasant temps and a chance of showers.

The end of the work week features seasonable temperatures and a chance for a couple of showers Thursday morning and again late Thursday into early Friday. Temperatures will reach the 70-degree mark or a little bit better Thursday afternoon.

Friday also features temperatures reaching near 70 degrees; however, in the afternoon, a cooling backdoor front likely drops temperatures to the 50s along the coastline and into the lower 60s inland.

Saturday will be quite sunny.

Saturday features a lot of sunshine. In fact, I expect a lot of sunshine to kick off the long weekend.

Water temperatures are only in the 50s, however, so if you’re going to the beach and want to go swimming for some reason, just remember those kind of temperatures are dangerous if you’re not wearing a wetsuit. The sun is also incredibly strong, so be careful because you can get burned very easily.

Sunday could be dicey.

There may be a couple of overnight showers Saturday, and if the forecast is going to go wrong this weekend, it will be Sunday.

A frontal system passing offshore should move along quickly enough to give us a nice day. But if the front slows down a little bit, the clouds and showers could linger Sunday morning. That would be the one change that could occur to this forecast.

Otherwise, look for a blend of clouds and sunshine and mild temperatures getting into the 70s and even 80s.

Memorial Day will be perfect.

Whether you’re traveling back or just hanging around, the weather will cooperate on Memorial Day. Any barbecues should go off without a hitch as temperatures will reach into the 70s with plenty of sunshine on Monday.
