Here’s David Epstein’s snow forecast for Sunday’s storm

Snow will be falling in Massachusetts while Tom Brady is on the field in Florida this Super Bowl Sunday.

Some areas southwest of Boston are expected to see more than seven inches of snow.

The snow arrived in Greater Boston around noon, and this afternoon’s travel will be slow. This will be a light to moderate snowfall with heavier amounts over Southeastern Massachusetts.

Interior Southeastern Massachusetts has the best chance of seeing seven inches of snow and could see a little more. Parts of Greater Boston north and west of the city are predicted to see two to five inches, while areas to the south are predicted to see heavier snowfall of four to seven inches.

The snow may begin as a mixture of rain and snow, or even all rain, over Cape Cod and the islands. But eventually, it will trend towards snow. This is why accumulation on the middle and outer portion of the Cape are lower.

This is a very fast-moving system and will be ending between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., starting from the western part of the state to the east. The texture of the snow will be on the fluffier and lighter side west of Route 128, trending heavier and wetter the closer to the coast you are.

Temperatures will be in the twenties well inland but reach into the thirties along the coastline and push west around 10 to 15 miles.

Let me just say at the onset of this next forecasting discussion: although the weather this week will be unsettled, this is not 2015. I repeat this is not 2015. Comparisons to that winter are not going to be valid in spite of the number of storms ahead. Remember we had over 60 inches of snow that month.

We have another weather system on Tuesday and then one late Thursday, which perhaps lingers into Friday and another one Sunday. All of these storms have the potential to bring at least some snow or a mixed bag to the area.

When it’s not snowing this week, it will be cold, so whatever does fall isn’t going anywhere. Sometimes when we get into these types of patterns with multiple storms, one of them ends up being more significant while the others often are less impactful.

If you’re not a fan of wintery weather, this is going to be a tough week for you. But if you like cold and snow, this is your week!
