Meteorologists are warning that the strong coastal storm hitting Massachusetts on Tuesday and Wednesday will bring potentially heavy rain, flooding, and damaging winds to the region.

National Weather Service forecasters said Tuesday that conditions from the autumn nor’easter are expected to deteriorate starting Tuesday afternoon, with the strongest winds predicted overnight into Wednesday morning.

Some areas of Massachusetts are forecast to see between 2 and 4 inches of rain from the storm, and a flood watch is in effect Tuesday through Wednesday for much of the region.

The service has issued high wind warnings and wind advisories for much of the region. Forecasters are also predicting that some areas could see wind gusts between 50 and 75 mph, and parts of the coast could see 20-foot waves.
