The federal office that offers services and benefits to immigrants will move its Boston location from Government Center to Fort Point. The move to 5 Channel Center, a Fort Point building once home to various artist work spaces, will take place next year.

Paula Grenier, spokeswoman for the US Citizenship and Immigration Services' Boston office, says the South Boston location will be a one-stop shop for all of the organization's needs. Currently, the main office is in the JFK Federal Building. Yet the Application Support Center, where clients get their fingerprints taken, is several blocks away on Portland Street.

"The move will improve service for the clients. Right now, when folks come into Boston, they have to go to multiple sites for different services," Grenier said.

In July 2009, the department opened a second Massachusetts office in Lawrence. That office is also full-service.
